A Story About Jake

My name is Jake and I was left behind..... abandoned!   I don't know what happened, but one day I came home from my usual outing and waited at the door... but no one was there to let me in.  I was not too worried about it at the time.... surely, my family would eventually show up.  So, I hunted for my dinner, found water in the stream behind my house, and waited and waited... and no one came.  After several weeks, I was very worried and exhausted, the hunting was not very good and it was very difficult for me to find water.  To make matters worse, a family of racoons had moved in under the porch.  They were very arrogant and aggressive.  I had to defend myself from them many times resulting in injuries to my eyes.  I laid on the bench by the front door and waited and hoped my family would return, but they never did !  I could not understand what had happened.  I thought I was such a good kitty and I loved them so much.  Why did they forget to take me with them?
I had been alone for so long....life was so hard....  for I could barely see... I had large sores on my back... and looked like a feather duster... nothing left of me but bones.... too weak to hunt...so I just laid by the door.

This was several months ago....now I am a new cat!!  My coat is shiny... I have put on almost three pounds...  My eyes are totally healed...I am again able to meow and groom myself.  I sleep on my friends's pillow.  I sometimes wake him up if I feel hungry and he feeds me.  I have developed a new taste in food....I love guacamole,  pepperoni, and almost anything that my friend has on his plate.  He tells me I am the best and most special cat he has ever had..... my eyes are beautiful... I have a fine set of whiskers.  He assures me I will never be hungry again.

Then one day ....these folks showed up and were looking at my house...and one of them talked to me and petted me.  I had not been petted in so long...it felt so good!  And..they didn't seem to mind that my hair fell out when the petted or touched me.
Later, he returned with lots of food and water. He came back many times.  Then he took me to his house and to a Doctor. I was told that I was an "old Tom"...that I weighed less than three pounds and ... probably would not make it...whatever that meant.  But my new friend and I knew that everything was going to be fine.  I just need lots of love and food.  I looked so bad that no one would touch me except my new friend.  At my new home,  I slept and ate alot.  I would follow my new friend everywhere he went because I was not about to be left behind again.  The other cats and dogs were so kind to me ... I could even eat their food and they did not seem to mind.

And by the way.... he also found out that I am not a "Jake ....but a "Jackie!"
